Rituals for the Full Harvest Moon in Pisces (Total Lunar Eclipse)

Updated: Sep 16

On Sunday, September 7th, the Full Harvest Moon rises in Pisces alongside a total lunar eclipse — the Blood Moon. This cosmic event is rare, powerful, and deeply emotional, especially for those who are already feeling raw.

Eclipses bring truth to the surface. Pisces, the sign of intuition and emotional depth, reminds us that healing doesn’t always mean “fixing.” Sometimes it means simply feeling, honoring, and letting go.

If you’re in a heavy place right now, like I am, here are rituals for the full harvest moon to help you work with this moon’s energy.

Read my Lunar Reflections Newsletter for more details on the energy of this moon.

Rituals for the Full Harvest Moon

1. Create a Sacred Rest Ritual

Rest is medicine. Under this moon, give yourself permission to unplug — from screens, from expectations, even from productivity.

  • Light a candle.

  • Stare into the flame and become aware of your breath.

  • Just breathe, notice your breath without trying to change it.

  • Continue to gaze into the flame.

  • Place your hands on your heart and whisper: “It is safe to rest. Rest restores my rhythm.”

2. Journal with the Moon

Pisces energy speaks in symbols, dreams, and emotions. Write down whatever surfaces, even if it doesn’t make sense. Your journal can hold what you don’t yet have words for.

Reflection ideas:

  • What emotions am I carrying that no longer belong to me?

If you can't name them, describe how you feel and where you feel.

Example: “I feel heavy. My chest hurts. There’s a lump in my throat. I’m holding back tears because I don’t know why I need to cry. It feels like I’m carrying grief that isn’t entirely mine, like a shadow I’ve picked up from the world around me. I want to put it down, but I don’t know how yet.

  • Where am I being called to surrender control?

Unsure how to relinquish control or terrified about what would happen if you do? Describe that uncertainty or fear.

Example: “I feel like if I loosen my grip, everything will fall apart. My mind races with the ‘what ifs.’ What if I stop holding it all together? What if people see I don’t have it figured out? But I’m also exhausted from trying to control every outcome. Maybe surrender means trusting that I don’t have to have all the answers right now — just the next breath, the next step.”

  • What part of me is ready to be seen, softened, or healed? What would that feel or look like?

Example: “There is a part of me that feels small and overlooked. She still aches for acknowledgment, and I’ve been silencing her for years by pretending I’m fine. Maybe healing means letting her be seen — raw, needy, imperfect — and trusting she’s still lovable.”

3. Honor & Release

Emotions are energy — they need to move. This eclipse is the perfect time to let them.

  • Cry, sigh, sing, shake, or breathe them out.

  • Rather than experiencing your emotions like waves crashing on you, close your eyes and imagine the moon pulling heaviness from your body like a tide carrying debris back to sea.

  • Affirm: “I honor what is rising. I release what I no longer need.”

4. Walk Under the Moon

Physical movement helps emotions flow. Take a quiet walk, letting your body lead the way. Walk consciously (heel-toe) and take note of your breath. Notice the air, the sounds, the ground beneath your feet. If you need to cry as you walk, let it come. You are not breaking — you are releasing.

5. Speak Your Truth

Sometimes the bravest ritual is simply admitting, “I’m not okay.” Share with a trusted friend, a journal, or even aloud to the moon. Speaking truth breaks the spell of silence.

6. Remember: Feeling = Alive

This moon may stir grief, worry, or heaviness. Don’t mistake that for failure. Feeling deeply is part of being human — and part of awakening.

Final Reflection

If this moon feels heavy, don’t mistake it for weakness. It’s a turning point — and sometimes the darkest nights birth the brightest clarity.

  • What endings am I resisting, and what new beginnings are waiting behind them?

  • Where can I be gentler with myself?

  • How can I transform grief or heaviness into wisdom?
