Moon Phases and Healing: The Healing Map

Updated: Jul 23

The question isn't, "Why do I feel this way?" It's, "What phase am I in?"

Moon phases aren't just events in the sky—they're a map for understanding the different seasons of healing we all move through.

When you discover your phase, you begin to understand what your healing needs next.

Have you ever felt lost?

Stuck?

Overwhelmed?

These aren’t things to judge. It’s information to become aware of.

I help people navigate their healing path by helping them to find their rhythm—the way they move through life.

What was missing from my healing journey was a bridge between spirituality and mental health. I found that bridge in nature, with the Moon as my teacher. When you learn what phase you are in, you can uncover your healing.

She gives us a map to help us navigate healing.

I teach you how to read it.

Most lunar teachings focus on what the Moon is doing. My work focuses on where you are. The Moon simply becomes a map that helps you understand where you are on your own healing journey.

People often ask me, "What Moon phase should I follow?"

My answer is always the same.

The one you're living.

The Moon isn't asking you to manifest every week.

It's showing you that life moves in rhythms.

Moon Phases and Healing: Discover Your Phase

I use the Moon as a teacher, but it’s all of nature that teaches how we should flow.

You’re not trying to match how you feel to the current moon phase. You're learning to recognize which season or phase your life is living in. This isn’t a calendar.

Nature is the teacher.

The Moon is the map.

Wild Moon Healing is the compass.

Awareness is the way we learn to navigate.

Most of us spend years asking the wrong question.

  • "Why am I like this?"

  • "What's wrong with me?"

  • "Why can't I just get it together?"

But healing doesn't begin with judgment; it starts with orientation. A hiker doesn't panic because they don't know where the trail ends. They look at the map.

That's what the Moon became for me.

Not something to worship.

Not something to fear.

A map.

I begin the Wild Moon Healing year at the Spring Equinox because that's when nature begins again.

Seeds awaken.

Light returns.

Life starts reaching upward.

To me, that's the true energy of the New Moon—a season of beginnings. Our culture celebrates January as a season of dramatic change, even as much of nature is still resting. Spring reminds us that lasting growth often begins more gently.

A normal monthly lunar transit in the sky holds energy in each sign for a few days. New and full Moons hold energy a few days before and after they arrive. On a collective scale, the energy of new and full moons expressed through nature holds for several weeks.

Awareness helps you discover what phase you're in. Once you know where you are, the map can show you what comes next.

We struggle when we keep trying to live in the wrong season. Spring isn't better than autumn. Action isn't better than rest. We simply need to become aware of where we are and what we need right now.

Honest awareness is simply recognizing where you are so you can stop fighting the season you're in.

The Moon continues its rhythm whether we're paying attention or not.

Nature continues its rhythm too.

That flow is the real teacher. Healing begins when we stop resisting it.

The invitation isn't to force yourself into today's lunar phase. The invitation is to notice which season your life is moving through because we have our own cycles that nature teaches us how to flow through.

Each moon phase offers a different invitation for healing. None of them is meant to be skipped. Let’s get a better understanding of each phase.

Give Yourself Permission To Become (New Moon)

Moon Phases and Healing

You may be in a season of becoming if...

  • You're craving clarity.

  • You're starting over.

  • You're exhausted from forcing answers.

Most people think New Moon energy is exciting. A blank slate. A pause. You can catch your breath and begin a new life. And that's true... You can begin again... anytime... as many times as you need to.

But excitement and fear can feel the same in the body. The first few Moon cycles of the lunar year are meant to wake us up after winter, challenge us to grow. Nature shows us how beautiful that can be. But growth can feel uncomfortable.

If you're in a new moon phase, you may need patience and permission to pause, slow down, get quiet, and stop demanding answers before they're ready to arrive.

If you feel hurried, Life may be teaching you how to trust what you cannot yet see or how to sit with uncertainty.

A pause might look like taking a nap, saying no to any more commitments right now, spending time in nature, or simply admitting, "I don't know what comes next yet."

Your body may stay in survival mode because it doesn't yet feel safe to pause.

Safety is often a byproduct of self-trust, and self-trust is built during the pause.

Give Yourself Permission To Build (Waxing)

Moon Phases and Healing

You may be in a season of building if...

  • You know what you want, but feel overwhelmed by the next step.

  • You keep waiting until you feel "ready."

  • You need support, but keep trying to do it alone.

Waxing energy is described as the time to learn, build, and grow. That sounds exciting, but what’s rarely spoken of is how much all that learning, building, and growing can trigger us.

If you're in a waxing moon phase, you may need support to take the next step. Life may be teaching you that healing was never meant to be done alone.

Reaching might look like asking for help, accepting encouragement, practicing a new skill, or taking one small step before you feel completely ready.

If you ignore this phase or don’t take the proper care you need, you may feel frustrated or stuck.

Your nervous system may keep searching for certainty before you're ready to move.

Confidence is built by moving before you feel ready.

Give Yourself Permission To See (Full Moon)

Moon Phases and Healing

You may be in a season of seeing if...

  • The same lessons keep showing up.

  • Emotions feel close to the surface.

  • Something no longer fits.

Full Moons are about shadow work, and no one wants to talk about that because they think that means looking at things that really hurt, which takes a lot of courage. But healing can be practical and even fun. I’ve lost a lot of weight, and under the Sagittarius Full Moon, I cleaned out my closet.

Full moon energy helps you see clearly what’s ready to be released, what’s holding you back, and what no longer fits the person you’re becoming.

That can be a truth, a feeling, or a pattern that's asking for your attention. If you're in a full moon phase, you may need the courage to face what's being revealed.

Life may be showing you what can no longer stay hidden. You may be learning how to face the truth. Your truth.

Facing something might look like having a difficult conversation, setting a boundary, or being honest about what you're feeling without bracing for the consequence.

If you ignore this phase or don’t take the proper care you need, you may feel lost, unsure of what comes next.

The Full Moon metaphorically illuminates what’s been hidden, and the truth is our nervous system can’t see in the dark.

Awareness turns the lights on.

Give Yourself Permission To Release (Waning)

Moon Phases and Healing

You may be in a season of releasing if ...

  • You're carrying something that's become too heavy.

  • You're feeling called to simplify.

  • You're ready to make space for what's next.

Waning energy is all about release and stillness. The concept of letting go was one of the hardest for me to grasp. I was not hanging on to grief or depression, but they wouldn’t leave.

Those intangible things… how do you release something that you can’t hold?

If you're in a waning moon phase, you may need grace as you release what no longer serves you to make space for what's next. Life may be teaching you how to let go without losing yourself.

Releasing might look like grieving, forgiving, decluttering, resting, or letting go of an expectation that no longer fits who you're becoming.

If you ignore this phase or don’t take the proper care you need, you lose the capacity to create anything new.

Your nervous system may cling to familiar pain because the familiar feels safer than the unknown.

Releasing isn't about losing part of yourself—it's about creating space for what's trying to grow next.

Where Does The Struggle Come From?

You don't have to become someone else.

You don't have to heal all at once.

You don't even have to know exactly where you're going.

You simply need to know where you are.

Because once you know where you are...

You know what comes next.

And that's where healing begins.

Awareness isn’t judgment.

It's how we orient ourselves.

Awareness changes everything.

Where are you on your journey today?

Still unsure what phase you’re in?

You don't need to have all the answers today.

You only need to know where you are.

Everything else becomes easier to navigate from there.

If this helped you recognize the season you're in, the next step is learning how to witness yourself with greater awareness.
